Healthcare :: Easier access to healthcare provider information – UK

A pilot project launched today alongside the booklet Choosing your hospital, offers members of the public access to healthcare provider information from their local library and GP surgery.

The booklet has been designed to help patients make more informed choices about their healthcare.

The Department has also published the results of the first National Patient Choice Survey, conducted between May and June 2006.

Patient choice, which came into effect on 1 January 2006, entitles NHS patients to the choice of at least four healthcare providers when they are referred for treatment by their GP. That choice was extended in May to include NHS foundation trusts and independent sector treatment centres.
