Education :: Commonwealth award to Care India

Smt. D. Purandeswari, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, handed over the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Award to CARE India, a renowned humanitarian organization, for their innovative primary education initiative for ?dropouts? and for ?never enrolled girls?.

Ms Kokila Gulati, Programme Director, Girls Education, CARE accepted the award. She was accompanied by Ms. Marge Tsitouris, Country Director, CARE; Mr. F.A. Jami, Technical Support- Education and Amelia Andrews, Communications Officer.

The Commonwealth Education Good Practice Award was given out in Cape Town, South Africa at the 16th Conference of the Commonwealth Education Ministers in December 2006. Minister of State for Human Resource Development, led the Indian delegation, where she accepted the Award on behalf of CARE India. Nine finalists from seven Commonwealth countries were selected. CARE India was the only finalist from the entire Asian region. A Pan Commonwealth jury judged the entries.

Shri .Keshav Desiraju, Joint Secretary (ICC), Prof. Ved Prakash, Vice Chancellor, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA)and Prof. S.K.Yadav of National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT) were also present on the occasion.
