Diabetes :: World Diabetes Day – November 14 – Australia

World Diabetes Day on 14 November concludes a year-long worldwide campaign to address diabetes in disadvantaged communities and vulnerable groups.

The World Diabetes Day campaign is coordinated by the International Diabetes Foundation.

The 2006 campaign ‘Diabetes Care for Everyone’ has highlighted the fragmented delivery of essential diabetes care, prevention and education to disadvantaged communities and vulnerable groups.

For this year’s World Diabetes Day campaign, Diabetes Australia is working to address the issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with diabetes.

An international ‘Diabetes in Indigenous People Forum’ is being hosted by Diabetes Australia and the International Diabetes Foundation in Melbourne to coincide with World Diabetes Day. The forum will address the key issues for diabetes in Indigenous people, focussing on the areas of: children, screening and prevention, pregnancy and nutrition.
