Dengue Fever :: Visitor ill with Dengue fever

The Centre for Health Protection has confirmed an imported Dengue fever case involving a 27-year-old visitor, bringing the year’s total to 30, all imported.

She travelled to Thailand October 30 to November 14. She came down with fever, headache, pain and rash on November 15 and was sent to a private hospital on Hong Kong Island two days later. Her condition is stable. Her companion has no symptoms.

People should stay alert to the threat of Dengue fever and take preventive measures. Travellers should wear long-sleeved tops and trousers and use insect repellent and mosquito screens or nets.

People feeling unwell after returning from their trip should consult a doctor as soon as possible and provide details of their travel.
