Colorectal Cancer :: Beer and spirits boost colon tumor risk

Dr. Joseph C. Anderson of Stony Brook University in NY, and colleagues, studied the effect of routinely consuming alcohol on colorectal tumor risk in 2,291 patients undergoing routine colonoscopy.

The investigators report that heavy beer or spirits drinkers were most likely to develop significant tumors; while non-drinkers or moderate consumers had half that risk.

Moderate wine drinkers had the lowest risk at about half that of the abstainers.
