Cobrapost sting operation on Babri Masjid demolition

BJP has approached the Election Commission to prohibit telecast and publication of contents of the sting operation by the web portal Cobrapost that claims that the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya was not an act of frenzied mobs but a planned sabotage with utmost secrecy.

Reacting to the sting operation, the Congress, CPI(M) and the Aam Admi Party has said the BJP and the RSS stand exposed for their alleged role played in the demolition act.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters in New Delhi that the contents of the sting appear to be politically motivated and what he called planned operation to polarise votes during the Lok Sabha elections. He also questioned the timing of the sting.

Congress spokesperson, Randeep Singh Surjewala has said the BJP that claims to be a true nationalist party can hatch such a conspiracy to divide the secular country on the basis of religion. Replying to a question on the alleged involvement of the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, he said that the then Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh had filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court that it was his constitutional duty to protect the mosque and now it is proved that he deceived the apex court.

CPI(M) has described the contents of sting operation as potential evidence in the case. On the social networking site twitter, party leader Brinda Karat said the court should take suo motocognizance on it and order investigation and action.

Aam Admi Party has said the sting operations on the Babri Masjid demolition raises serious questions about the role-played by the top BJP and Congress leadership at that time. In a statement, the party said the sting operation has confirmed the widespread belief that the demolition was a pre-planned conspiracy by the various affiliates of the Sangh Parivar and top BJP leadership. It also nailed the then Congress government for neglecting the development took place in Ayodhya.
