Botox :: Newborn suffering from excessive drooling

A nine-month old boy is still alive because of Botox injections he received, a doctor at the Montreal Children’s Hospital said.

Botox is used extensively as a wrinkle reducer, but it has also proven effective in helping children and adults with excessive drooling problems.

Dr. Sam Daniel, who studies ear and throat diseases, said drooling is often associated with cerebral palsy, epilepsy and mental problems.

He said he has treated nearly 100 children with Botox during the past few years and that it has worked in some older children by paralyzing their saliva glands.

Daniel said a rehabilitation centre in Toronto is the only other Canadian city with a saliva management clinic that offers similar treatment.
