Ayurveda :: Alternative medicine – Ayurveda

Ayurveda means the “Science of life” comprising of a system of lifestyle recommendations (which include diet, exercise and meditation), along with the use of specific herbs and minerals in the management of disease conditions.

An ancient Eastern Indian philosophy and practice of traditional folk medicine using herbs, aromatherapy, nutrition, massage and meditation to create a balance between the mind and body. Ayurveda teaches that health and beauty result from a proper balance of the universal elements: Air, Space, Water, Fire and Earth. These elements combine to create three forces, called Doshas. By balancing these three Doshas within ourselves we achieve a natural equilibrium that heals and enhances the mind, body and spirit. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term, made up of the words “ayus” and “veda.” “Ayus” means life and “Veda” means knowledge or science. The term “ayurveda” thus means ‘the knowledge of life’ or ‘the science of life’.
